2012 Diageo Special Releases

So this time of year we're already thinking about the 'best of' award winners and the Diageo 2012 rare malt releases. Now this leak comes via someone via Whisky Investor, so thanks and we've no reason not believe it isn't genuine. Drum roll...

Auchroisk 30yo (1981)
Brora 35yo (1976-1977) 4399 SEK 533 euros
Dalwhinnie 25yo (1987)
Lagavulin 12 YO
Lagavulin 21yo (1991) 3745 SEK 454 euros
Port Ellen 33yo (1979) 6399 SEK 778 euros
Roseisle 3 yo (2009)
Talisker 35yo (1977) 5619 SEK 682 euros
Caol Ila 14 YO Unpeated

The first thing that hits home are the prices on some of these. Using the current Euro exchange rates we have the following:

Brora £421
Lagavulin £359
Port Ellen £615
Talisker £539

So it looks like those rumours about the Port Ellen being £600 look correct. I suppose its something we all feared as the stocks from many of these collectable and illustrious distilleries are beginning to run dry. Rosebank is notable by its omission - is that it? Why 2 releases of Lagavulin? As Roseisle was completed in Spring 2009, we're at the legal minimum age for it to be bottled as a whisky; it will be affordable compared to others on the list and an interesting journey into this newly build massive distillery. So my own choice would be the Brora to go with last year's release which was superb and Roseisle. The others I wait to hear the gushing reviewers give their praise.
