ALTERED CARBON by Richard K. Morgan

Sunday, January 20, 2008

An essential purchase for any cyberpunk, book, sci-fi fan has just been announced by Subterranean Press. In fact I almost cried with joy. Yes, its a special edition of the classic debut from Richard Morgan known as Altered Carbon.

Not only was this the beginning of a great series but also marked the arrival of a major new talent. Just read it and see what I mean. The Subterranean Press edition is scant on extras but comes in two forms:

Limited: 500 signed numbered hardcover copies: $75

Lettered: 26 signed lettered copies, housed in a custom traycase: $250

Both I reckon will sell out promptly, so get over there if you're interested. I've plumped for the limited version, as without the traycase there is little to choose between either.

"The Subterranean Press edition includes a cover and four full color interior illustrations by Vincent Chong - including that scene in the hotel lobby, done as a foldout. One of the illos will be exclusive to the lettered edition."

If the lettered version featured an exclusive chapter or deleted notes, then it would have been an easy choice. You won't have to wait long either, as its off to the printers in a few weeks. So I'm hoping that this is the first of several special editions for Morgan's work.
